Intern At Awakenings!

Awakenings’ Internships provide young professionals hands on training and experience in the planning, outreach, and execution of our year round arts programming for survivors of sexual violence. With opportunities to work at every phase of our work here, interns receive one on one supervision from our staff, training in trauma informed practices, and one of a kind experience in creating effective, intentional programs for survivors. We host internships in the Spring, Summer, and Fall of every year in Outreach, Marketing, Graphic Design, Literary, Visual Art, and Programming. Our current openings are listed below:

Duration & Time Commitment: May-August 2020. 12-15 hrs/week to be scheduled in accordance with Intern Availability.

Our Mission:  Awakenings is an arts nonprofit dedicated to making visible the artistic expression of survivors of sexual violence. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

The goal of this internship is to provide the intern an opportunity to obtain hands-on experience within a small non-profit during a critical growth period. The intern will be highly engaged with the planning and execution of marketing strategy & the creation of graphic design content to promote our arts programming for survivors of sexual violence. Intern will take lead on written & visual communications for our social media, assist with interviewing artists, photography and video production. Graphic design responsibilities will include the creation of social media graphics, flyers, online magazine layout, and booklets specific to our programming needs. The term of this internship begins in late May and will end in August dependent upon the applicant’s schedule. 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent written & communication skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and meet deadlines in a timely manner
  • Works well in a small team & is a self-starter
  • Film and/or photography background preferred
  • Experience with media relations preferred
  • Experience with Canva and Adobe Suite preferred
  • Experience with copy-editing and proof-reading preferred but not required
  • Experience with wordpress or submittable preferred but not required

Our Organization:  Awakenings is an arts nonprofit dedicated to making visible the artistic expression of survivors of sexual violence. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

The goal of this internship is to provide the intern with the opportunity to obtain hands-on experience within a small non-profit during a critical growth period. The intern will be highly engaged with the planning and execution of our artistic programming for survivors of sexual violence. For the summer of 2020, this position will engage specifically with our visual art exhibit created in collaboration with Kan Win & it’s surrounding programming. Depending on the applicants specific strengths, they might also be more involved with our literary programming including Awakened Voices, our online magazine, and The Nightingale blog.
