Internship

Awakenings’ Internships provide young professionals hands-on training and experience in the planning, outreach, and execution of our year-round arts programming for survivors of sexual violence. With opportunities to work at every phase of our work here, interns receive one on one supervision from our staff, training in trauma-informed practices, and one of a kind experience in creating effective, intentional programs for survivors. We host internships in the Spring, Summer, and Fall of every year in Outreach, Marketing, Graphic Design, Literary, Visual Art, and Programming. Our current openings are listed below:

The goal of this internship is to provide the Marketing intern with the opportunity to obtain hands-on experience within a small non-profit during a critical growth period. Intern will work closely with the Associate Director to take lead on written & visual communications for our Social Media Platforms, assist with digital marketing campaigns, assist with video/interview production, and support media and outreach communications. The term of this internship begins on September 22nd, 2020  and ends December 2020 (exact date TBD based on intern availability).  

The Intern is responsible for completing 12-15 hours of work each week scheduled around the Intern’s class schedule/availability. To accommodate the health and safety of our team and interns during the Covid-19 Pandemic, this internship will be held remotely with the potential to move to in-person should the situation improve come November. 

Please note that this internship is unpaid. College credit is available. 

MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of Awakenings is to make visible the artistic expression of survivors of sexual violence. All volunteers and interns are responsible for becoming familiar with the above mission statement. In addition, each volunteer and intern is expected to adhere to policies and procedures as stated.

Preferred Qualities and Experience:

  • Confidence in written & verbal communications.
  • Ability to pick up on new ideas, platforms and concepts quickly
  • Leads with vulnerability and asks questions when needed
  • A strong collaborator who can generate new ideas and contribute creatively to solve problems and achieve goals
  • An established understanding of social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tik Tok, Youtube, etc. 
  • Graphic Design Experience strongly preferred
  • Video Editing Experience strongly preferred.

Intern will work closely with our literary & visual art review committees of volunteers, Programming Assistant, and Creative Director to plan and execute various visual and literary events and programs throughout our fall season: Bloom.

Associate Board

The primary functions of this volunteer board are fundraising and ambassadorship for the organization and our year round arts programming for survivors. AB members are provided the opportunity to network with other professionals with dedication to this issue area as well as professional development & training opportunities in a creative and celebratory environment. Associate Board members will help to increase awareness of our organization and programs through social media, word of mouth, and personal introductions. Awakenings is at a critical growth period and Associate Board members play a key role in the strategic growth of our organization. 

We are currently seeking new members!

Seeking early career professionals passionate about serving survivors and elevating their artistic expression to the public eye. 

Duration & Time Commitment: 

  • Commitment to one year minimum of active membership
  • Attendance at monthly meetings- currently held the first Monday of every month from 7:00-8:30 pm. 
  • Attendance at 25% of Awakenings’ programs each year. (Awakenings typically holds 1-3 events and programs each month) 
  • Attendance at any Associate Board specific fundraising events. 
  • Participation in all Awakenings fundraising or outreach campaigns

Monetary Commitment: Associate Board Members have a “Give/Get” of $250 per person per fiscal year: This can be money raised from bringing friends to events, donation of or securing donation of services, and/or personal donations.
